Tesla Supercharger V4 has been revealed to have the potential to be twice as powerful as the previous generation, and this could have implications for the Malaysian market with Tesla’s expected arrival by the end of 2023.
The new charger is expected to feature the potential for a higher charge rate, which is currently capped at 250 kW for the Supercharger V3, and a solution to allow CCS charging for non-Tesla electric vehicles. The CCS solution was later revealed to be the Magic Dock, which has so far only been deployed on Supercharger V3 stations. The new V4 Superchargers are ready to be launched in Europe just a few weeks after construction began. On March 3, the first installations were spotted at a Supercharging station in Harderwijk, the Netherlands, and are expected to support a 1,000V architecture that will enable faster charging speeds and could be used by more manufacturers.
While this power output potential is impressive, it may not be immediately relevant to the Malaysian market, as most Tesla vehicles in Malaysia may not be able to accept such a high level of power. However, the higher output potential of the Supercharger V4 could be an indication of where Tesla plans to go with its electric vehicles in the near future. It remains to be seen whether Tesla will split the power, as it previously moved away from that strategy with the Supercharger V3.
It’s worth noting that if Tesla brings the Cybertruck to Malaysia in the future, the truck is capable of supporting the 1000V architecture that the Supercharger V4 uses. This means that Cybertruck owners in Malaysia may be able to take advantage of the full power output potential of the Supercharger V4.
Overall, the Supercharger V4 update is a significant one, with a longer cable design and a higher output potential. If Tesla decides to bring the Cybertruck to Malaysia in the future, this development could have implications for the electric vehicle market in the country, especially with the Cybertruck’s potential compatibility with the 1000V architecture of the Supercharger V4.
